The Straw faucet basin mixer is a unique piece of design that stands out due to its innovative form and functionality. The design is based on two vertical tubes arranged in parallel, with one rod bent like a straw to serve as the spout of the faucet. The vertical rod, on the other hand, functions as the handle to control the water flow and temperature. This design breaks away from traditional forms, offering a refreshing and surprising set that combines dynamic design with perfect functionality.
The Straw faucet basin mixer is not just a product of creative design, but also of advanced technology. This brass basin mixer is produced through a foundry process and subsequent machining and polishing. The glossy finish is attained through a chroming process, resulting in a product that is as visually appealing as it is functional.
The Straw faucet basin mixer is a result of a design competition launched by Barros & Moreira to ESAD-CR, involving students of Industrial Design. The project involved a thorough assessment of traditional faucet shapes and production technology, with the aim of creating a product that was both innovative and functional. The involvement of young, creative minds in the product development process resulted in a product that is not only aesthetically pleasing but also practical and user-friendly.
The design of the Straw faucet basin mixer presented several challenges, the first of which was the deconstruction of a typical faucet. The radical forms of the tap were a challenge, particularly in terms of hiding the handle, which in traditional taps is affixed above the main body. Despite these challenges, the design team successfully created a faucet that is pleasant to the sight and ensures excellent functionality.
The Straw faucet basin mixer has been recognized for its innovative design and has been awarded the Golden A' Bathroom Furniture and Sanitary Ware Design Award in 2014. This prestigious award is granted to outstanding creations that reflect the designer's prodigy and wisdom, embodying extraordinary excellence and significantly impacting the world with their desirable characteristics.
